Dental Caries Among Visitors of Teaching Hospitals
Abstract
Knowledge, attitude and practice regarding dental caries are major risk factors in the occurrence of dental problems and their awareness has a chief role in the prevention, control and treatment of the disease and thus the overall health of the population.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the level of knowledge, attitude and practice regarding dental caries. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was executed at dental departments of teaching hospitals, Lahore. According to predesigned questionnaire and informed consent, 80 individuals between ages5-65 years were comprised in the. Data were gathered and analysis done by SPSS version 24.0.
RESULTS: Analysis revealed that79%wereawareamong different occupational groups, most being the house wives, about dental caries. 54% of them were aware that this condition is preventable and knew about appropriate practice and attitude for healthy teeth, 52%arevisitingdentistsfortheirdentalhealth frequently whereas 75% of the population practice of brushing daily.
CONCLUSION: Much of the people were lacking basic knowledge, attitude and practice regarding dental health and demands much to be done in the area to free the population of the disease burden.
