Knowledge and Awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder Among health care professionals in Lahore, Pakistan

Abstract

Background:

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are normal and long-term neurological disorder portrayed by hindered socialization, disabled correspondence both verbal or non-verbal, and decreased interests and redundant examples of behavior

 It is thought to be one of the quickest developing childhood disorders

 

Objective(s):

To assess the knowledge and awareness regarding autism spectrum disorder between health care professionals from distinct disciplines.

 

Methodology:

The awareness of Autism spectrum disorder had been discussed. A standardized questionnaire (KCAWH) consisting of 25 questions was recruited through multiple settings in Lahore from 196 health care professionals in which including ( MBBS doctors, psychologists, physiotherapists) regarding their knowledge and awareness about ASD.

Results:

The entire number of questionnaire forwarded was one hundred and ninety six. Our Results show that only 56.1% of healthcare professionals have significant knowledge about Autism Spectrum disorder. Generally distinct professionals emerge to have a different knowledge about the disorder.

Conclusion(s):

Results proposes that current experts in the field have a deficient comprehension of Autism spectrum disorder because of presence of few misconceptions with respect to a significant number of the conspicuous features of autism Spectrum disorder including developmental, psychological and emotional features
