Impact of types of dysmenorrhoea on Quality Of Life among young females
Abstract
Dysmenorrhoea is a condition in which females suffer from mild to severe pain during menstruation. It affects their quality of life by making them unable to perform daily chores, decreasing their social life to minimal and by reducing their productivity. Objective: To assess the quality of life among young females with dysmenorrhoea. Methods: A cross sectional study based on a sample size of 270 was conducted. Sampling technique used was non- probability convenient sampling. The study was carried out by using pre-tested questionnaire. Sample selection was conducted through exclusion criteria (females with amenorrhoea, non-cooperative females and females from other institution). For the analysis of data SPSS version 25.0 was used. Results: The results of the present study showed that primary dysmenorrhoea has more impact on quality of life of females than secondary dysmenorrhoea. Females with both types of dysmenorrhoea suffered from irritation, pain, discomfort, upset metabolism and other factors that reduced their physical abilities. The following associations of different domains related to QOL with dysmenorrhoea were found significant: Mobility during primary and secondary dysmenorrhoeal pain (p=.001), problem in performing usual activities during primary and secondary dysmenorrhoea (p=.001), problem in washing dishes caused by both types of dysmenorrhoea, hindrance in dressing up during primary and secondary dysmenorrhoea ( p=.001) and onset of depression and anxiety during primary and secondary dysmenorrheal pain ( p=.001).Conclusion: Females with dysmenorrhoea of any type primary or secondary suffer from a decline in their quality of life. Onset of dysmneorrhoeal pain retreats them from being active, energetic and societal during menstruation.
