The Potential Effectiveness of Red Beetroots for the Management and Control of Metabolic Syndrome- A Review

Abstract

Metabolic syndrome results in serious complications like stroke, CVD, heart attack, fatty liver and is increasing the mortality rate. Recently red beetroot has gained importance due to its components betalains and nitrates which have resulted in alleviating the classic symptoms of metabolic syndrome. Though the exact mechanism of how red beetroot helps in inhibiting the metabolic syndrome is not known. Different studies have been done till now which show drastic beneficial effects of red beetroot against hypertension, diabetes, lipidemia and obesity. Different mechanisms have been proposed in different studies through which red beetroot show anti-diabetic, anti-lipidemic, anti-obesity and anti-hypertensive properties. The purpose of current review is to summarize the studies conducted on red beetroot therapeutic health benefits against metabolic syndrome.
